The Free plan and Education Free are free on the condition that they are used fairly, as this Fair Usage Policy describes. It is part of the Terms of Service and the Acceptable Use Policy of DotPlus Technologies Private Limited ("Daakiaa"), and applies to every account and every person with a mailbox in it. The rules on pirated, copyrighted and unlawful material below apply to every plan, free or paid.
In short: free storage, file sharing and meetings are for your organisation's everyday email and work (or teaching). They are not a free hard disk, a file-sharing site or a way to pass around pirated or illegal material. Using them that way can get the account limited, suspended or blocked.
What fair use means
- Writing and receiving email, with the attachments that normally go with it.
- Calendar, tasks, chat and meetings among your members and the people you work with.
- Keeping the files your organisation works on, and sharing them with the people who need them for that work.
- For Education plans: teaching, learning and running a recognised school, college or university.
Not fair use: storage and sharing
- Using Daakiaa as a data dump or backup store: uploading or mailing to yourself computer backups, disk or phone images, database dumps, CCTV footage, large archives or media collections that are not part of your organisation's day-to-day communication.
- Using Daakiaa as a file-hosting or download site: posting share links publicly or widely so that many people download files, using links as a "CDN" for websites or apps, or sharing the same large files with many outsiders again and again.
- Storing or sharing files for people who are not members of your organisation, or on their behalf.
Never allowed on any plan: pirated, copyrighted and illegal material
- Pirated films, web series, TV shows, live sports or event recordings, and links to them.
- Copyrighted music, audio books, e-books, newspapers or magazines, paid courses and study material, question papers, software, games, apps, cracks, keygens, serial numbers or licence-bypass tools, shared without the owner's permission.
- Photos, images, artwork, videos, fonts and designs that you do not have the right to share, including stock material without a licence.
- Counterfeit goods, fake documents or certificates, or anything that infringes trademarks.
- Anything else that is unlawful or prohibited under the Acceptable Use Policy, the Copyright Act, 1957, the Information Technology Act, 2000 or the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including obscene material, gambling or betting where it is illegal, and content about drugs or weapons.
- Streaming or replaying copyrighted films, matches or shows in a Daakiaa meeting.
Not fair use: getting around the free limits
- Opening several free accounts or organisations (for example with different domains) to get more free mailboxes, storage or sending.
- Letting many people share one mailbox to stay within the free number of mailboxes, or giving mailboxes to people outside your organisation.
- Selling, renting or giving away free mailboxes, or reselling the Service without a partner agreement.
- For Education plans: using them for a business, a coaching or tuition company or any other non-educational purpose, or for anyone other than the institution's own students, teachers and staff.
Not fair use: automated or excessive use
- Scripts, bots or programs that upload, download, sync or send continuously, or use IMAP, SMTP or our API far beyond what a person normally would.
- Using a free mailbox to send app notifications, OTPs, newsletters or other bulk or automated mail, or as a relay for another system.
- Forwarding mail automatically to large numbers of outside addresses, or running mailing lists from a free mailbox.
- Anything that puts an unusual load on our servers or harms other customers.
How we notice
We do not read your mail or open your files to check fair use. Our systems look at usage patterns: how fast storage grows, the types and sizes of files, how often share links are downloaded and by how many people, sending volume, bounces and complaints, virus-scan results and the digital fingerprints (hashes) of files already reported as infringing. We also act on complaints from copyright owners and on orders and notices from courts and government agencies.
What we may do
- Write to the account's administrator and ask for the use to be brought back to normal within a reasonable time.
- Limit the account: pause uploads or new share links, turn off public links, or slow down sending.
- Remove or disable access to infringing or unlawful material, as the law requires once we have actual knowledge of it.
- Suspend or block the account, and for repeat or serious cases (such as piracy or illegal material) close it permanently and refuse new accounts for the same organisation, people or domains.
- Keep the related records and report the matter to the authorities where the law requires, as explained in section 5 of the Terms.
An organisation that needs more storage, more sending or regular file sharing can move to a paid plan at any time; schools can choose Education Standard or Plus.
